    meta tags do seem useless

I was messing around and googled the term 'seo' and seotoday.com is #5.
I was looking at their source.. they have no SE related meta-tags at all!

I know everyone says they hold no value, but I always thought they had some sort of value even if it's small.
Anyways, this is proof for everyone else

if all but just adding to your keyword density , their just as valuable as adding the word another time on your page so they have some value.

Do you mean metatags or the meta keywords tag because the title metatag certainly has value and so - in my experience - do a few others.

...anyway, whilst your discovery does prove that you can rank well without metatags, it doesn't prove that they have no value; maybe if they did use them the site would rank better!

...and whatever value google may set on them, they do have value with other SE's.

The fact that seotoday.com does not use meta tags means nothing about how much meta tags are used or rewarded by Google.

Do you mean metatags or the meta keywords tag because the title metatag certainly has value and so - in my experience - do a few others.
If you are referring to the TITLE tag, it is not a meta tag; if you are referring to <meta name="title" content="...">, then I think it has no value at all.

Yes I agree with you that the meta name="title" does seem to have no value.

And sorry I didnt mean that meta tags have absolutely no value at all, but rather that they are *almost* worthless, since a site like that can be up there with very few important things
