Meta description
I was wondering if I used the same description for the articles that i write as the meta description, would it hurt me?

No it won't hurt... nor will it help. It's kinda like taking your air conditioner outside and turning it on to cure global warming.

Well.....I don't think it hurt you but try to have a little variations in meta description other than copying the same meta description..... |

If you ain't interested in making a description for each page, just don't put any... I'd rather have none than the same on every pages. SE will just use any part they like from your content to display in their snippet.

create a unique description for each page based upon what the user will find when they arrive to the page.

Just think of it this way! What ever you put in the description, will show up on Google search results. EX: let say you put in description this.. .:: This is my site, it about this and this ::. So when a guest searches for something on Google and came across your site it well show your Title and description, witch was.. .:: This is my site, it about this and this ::. So when editing you meta tags try making it as vivid as possible, so guest can see it, like it, and click on it. -exodot Last edited by ExoDot : May 3rd, 2008 at 10:43 PM. Actually your analogy is inaccurate. If your Meta Description reads: "This is my site, it about this and this" - your listing will NEVER say that UNLESS someone types a search in as "This is my site" or "it about this and this" or "my site, it about this"... Realistically no one will ever type those searches in so the search engines will automatically show "snippets" of the actually pages content for all valid searches that showed your page listing. I like the approach of not using one at all and just letting the spiders pick what they want as a snippet. All other things being equal you'd have to consider the time involved and whether it's worth the intangible SERP increase.

Great points but things aren't even close to being equal... 'if it's your own domain you should do whatever you want' but if you're a SEO with a paying client... the excuses for using start with "it doesn't hurt SEOing" [the Internet Advantage approach] and end with "I'm an expert SEO but can't fathom how to prevent a search engine from making a mess of a client snippets - so I must use Meta Descriptions"... It's either that or "I'm an old dog... my tail wags me". |

For article pages [which primarily consists of text] I'd hardly worry about Meta Description. I'd rather concentrate on related long tail terms that would go with the topic of the article.
Concentrating on long tail terms instead of framing a Meta Description will give you far better results in terms of driving search engine traffic to the article pages.

It won't hurt, but it would be better if you just make it descriptive describing the whole topic of the page.
