... It's also worth noting that "accurate text on the page can create accurate snippets" so the 'jest' of their CTR statement "DOES NOT SAY" Meta Description will improve click through rates "the accuracy of information will"... ...and that's actually is a bit bogus as well... inaccurate listings e.g. SPAM! ...have no problem getting good CTR [it wouldn't be SPAM if it didn't] - they just also get higher back-button use.

Think of meta description as ad copy rather than as SEO copy. It's purpose is generating click-throughs from your organic search "ad".

However, Google's automatically-generated text may just as effective as ad copy as whatever you write for a meta description. An advantage to the automatically generated one is that it will usually pull in the user's keyword if that appears anywhere on you page. You meta description is less versatile in that way. |

Yes, because longer a keyword phrase is, lesser is the competition. Also if you check your analytics keyword report, you will see that a major portion of your traffic came from phrases that you didn't ever image in your wildest dreams. This gives you another hint on what are the terms you should include within your content and in your anchors. That way you will rank higher for those phrases and get more traffic out of them.
