Red face Making a perfectly Google-optimised site!

I have made a mess of my oscommerce based website and was wondering if i got a website made which was totally html based as in static except for customer details and bestsellers and the like, and added each product page manually as an extra page on the site with a customised url and everything would this give me better chances of being fully indexed and going up in the SERPs?

The best way is to find a code using a site such as freelancerchina and write very clear specs. A page of standard guidelines dictating layout, links, style (eg using style sheets instead of tables to position things), and format. Then get a few copies done of a template page until you are happy.

Once that's done its a matter of drafting the content and sending it across to get written up.

If the site grows to any size HTML pages quickly become unmangeable. Did you investigate any of the freely available CMS systems such as Joomla, Typo etc or even Wordpress and a clever theme.

YES. If you get your site completely done in html and create a sitemap, your site has more chance of getting ranked well. There is no doubt in it. Make sure that you follow the basic google SEO tips to rank well for all your keywords.

Whether your site is html or php or asp, rankings depends on the quality of the website. an html site don't have any advantage with php or asp site. but urls with question marks or extra signs is an exception.

What's wrong with fixing what you have?

OSCommerce is as friendly as they get for a database drive website.

Unhappy

the problem im having is that my oscommerce version is a 1 point something and there are a lot of extra features and modifications that have been added by various web designers so every time my current designer tries to change one thing another thing goes wrong in the site and my site is running at present so i cannot take it down

Well depending on the level of customization - just load a new copy (CRE Loaded may be a better option).
