Lost Ranking after site change

i have just redesigned my site, content and structure only slightly tweaking the content by adding more of it so keywords are the same etc.

i needed to do this as the site was dated, i was ranking at #3 but obviously have now dropped to page 8 the change was done a week ago.
Can i have some input out from a more experienced person on what sort of time period it can take to get back up top?

It will depend upon what type of changes u ve made. U may get back ur original ranking or u may not. Hard to say anything without going in detail.

Standard response - If changing your page made you drop, you don't have strong enough links. Work on getting better links, then you don't have to worry about changing your content.

Did you change URLs?

If you did then you need to 301 redirect the original URLs to the new locations.

Are the page Titles the same?

If the URLs, links, Title and content are the same or very similar it is not likely you will experience a drop.

Check broken links and Google Web Master Tools for errors. Check your site error logs.

The golden rule is, if a change has a negative effect, revert back to what worked previously.

There is no reason that changing a design would make your site rank that much lower if you kept the same URLs.

the titles and content are the same, the urls names are the same just moved inside a services folder to group the pages. A 301 has been places on all pages.
