long keyword domains, good, bad, ugly?

Is there a magic number that you shouldn't go past in domains?
    say:

    keywor-keywor-keywordss.com

is 21 characters is that too much for google to swallow?
I've read somewhere that google doesn't read past 100 characters (including dir/html) is that correct?

    Not sure about the number of characters - but aren't you forgetting something, your supposed to design a website for people to navigate and use easily, having;

    www.my-long-bloody-seo-type-url.com isnt very user friendly!

    Now dynamic URL's thats different!

There are a million legit reasons to have a domain like that.

Mainly, its much easier for people to type out and remember.

adomainthatisallpushedtogether.com vs. a-site-that-is-easy-to-read.com is better for the user.

Plus many, many .coms are taken and you have to add words to get a new domain.

Why would the GoogleGods bother smiting people for this?

Please explain a dynamic URL I agree the SEO url is not all that friendly but have you looked in the travel sector lately?
My main concern is it ok to buy say 2 keyword domains and have them domain to my non keyword brand domain.

    Is this a bad strategy?

Why do you say to write off the travel industry? as a content developer my work has been featured on bbc, usatoday, lonely planet, travelocity, etc. It does great on its own but I've never paid attention to SEM till now and I see the power I just need some good solid advice.

there's some great 15-20 character keyword domains but I don't know if its worth the effort or its ok by SE standards

    http://www.world-usa-newyork-london-...ours-cheap.com
This kind of domains are spam or not spam?

and which is better? and easy to remember?
    "a-site-that-is-easy-to-read.com" or "expedia.com" ?

Hopefully, there are no more any spammy domains in SERPS.

I wouldn't just point the new domains at the main one.

Build seperate content on them and point them at the main domain. DO NOT link back from the main domain.

Try to buy at least one high PR link from a directory or competing website. Put 50 or pages of content on each of the - domains and make sure its all spiderable.

Use keyword rich anchor text for all of the pages on that satellite sites that points at the target pages on the main money site. For best results link every page to every page on the - domains so that the site is a near mini directory of every keyphrase you can find.

This will solve the authority problem as well as give you credit for outbound link authority as well as having miraculous theming results on your main money site. Good luck.
