Local Search - How To Beat The National Sites ???

Just been checking out a local search term and find the keyword is dominated by national sites. The thing Im looking at is campsites in my home town. THe search returns a lot of national sites that list all the campsites in the country. Obviously the search shows pages from those sites that are of campsites in my town.

How would I go about taking on these national sites ? Is it just the same as always that I have to beat their pages on links with relevant anchor text, or do I get any extra seo points as the site I will build is actually more relevent to the keyword.

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Do a search for "hyperlocal seo tips" and you'll find some good resources.

For your site specifically, I'd also create a page for each campsite, include the address on the page and see if you can get links from any of the campsites around you that have websites.
