    Links from Selfcreated Authority Subs.

    Hi everybody.
Has anybody ever tried what happenes if you put links from so called authority sites to your own site?
What I especially meen is the fact you can get subdomains at some of these authority sites for free. So what happens if you get some of these subs and put links to your "regular" website.

Big effort? No effort? Only effort when the site also has a good PR? Or will you get a penalty for doing this?

I know this is not the technique a good SEO should use and I also know that IF this technique is effective, it does not mean it is going to be effective for the future. But I am just interested if anybody ever tried this these days...
    Let me know!

    Hi FreshNet,

Let me see if I understand, you want to find an Authority site, lets say www.example.com and then create a website with a sub domain like mysite.example.com and using this sub domain, link to your REAL site?

I think you will get NO real benefit from this... To my understanding, most (if not all) search engines consider these to be SEPERATE sites, regardles of the fact that they share the same domain name... example.com

Once you create your sub domain, it will be viewed as a new, PR0 website, totally seperate from the autority site.

If you did this 600x and had a few links on each site, you might be able to get a nice boost!

If anyone else knows something more, please post.

zivk - I think you may be mistaken - I've seen newer subdomains rank very well, on the condition that they are linked to by the main site.

So, if www.url.com is an authority and it links to subdomain.url.com, that site can rank very well. Regarding the value of the links, I would estimate they are very high, but I'm linked to by 12 of the top 20 sites that rank at Google for my search terms, and I'm not feeling the benefits yet...

Here's what I think he meant. Sign up for a free account at some big geocities type site, and using his_subdomain.geocities.com, put a link on that to his-real-site.com . I've seen his_subdomain.geocities.com rank well for terms, so a link from there would possibly help as well. I've never done a controlled test to test this out, so its just a guess though.

    trying to make things clear...

    Thank you dazzlindonna,
Thatīs exactly what I am talking about. My opinion to this is also that is not playing an important role if (f.x.) the geocities homepage links to the sub or not.
Itīs just the fact the website is a geocities site.
If someone is not believing in this sub theory I can stick him some keywords...

I can not believe there is nobody who ever registered one of these sites... and "played with them a little"...

I have free subdomain of one 'big' site. I don't think it gets any effect on SERP of that subdomain or site link to that subdomain. too bad...

Use more sites and link to one of your sites and see if it works...

I have 3 geocities sites, each has a mini website (about 2 pages) and good links to my main sites...

I did not see any benefits as of yet, but I will give it time. After all, it doesn't hurt to have links.
