Linking to a page with high or low pagerank

Hi there,

I've been reading this forum for quite a while, trying to find more information about outbound links. From what I've read, I've come to the conclusion that outbound links ARE a good thing for all sorts of reasons including the reputation of your site (it pays to be a "hub" not a "hoader")

Lots of outbound links does decrease your pagerank, but I'm trying to work out something specific:

One link to a page with pagerank 8 is better than
One link to a page with pagerank 2 ?

If you link to a pagerank 8 instead of 2, does Google view that as 'more relevant' and thus look upon your own site in a better light?

Nope, it makes 0 difference to your page rank or ranking by linking to sites with different PR.

A link from your site will pass the same amount of PR to a PR2 site as it will to a PR8 site.

PR has nothing to do with relevance.
Relevance has everything to do with rankings.

So therefore if you are concerned with rankings - concern your self with relevance not PR.

You are absolutely right in your assumption that linking out to relevant sites is a very good thing to do.

link to related sites and google may reward you for it

example

if you have a seo site linking to sites like seochat.com would let google know your site is about SEO

Google may penilize you for linking to non related sites like gambling and porn. I think it is best to manly only link to sites that are related to your site. This will help you from being seen as a link seller

I think when google sees lots of unreleted links they may think you are selling links

Hi again, thanks for your replies.

I understand that linking to sites of relevance is definately the best thing to do, and I would never do otherwise. I should have made that clearer in my original post.

I was just wondering if linking to a relevant site of pagerank 8 is better than linking to a relevant site of pagerank 2..

But tstolber answerered that for me, thank you!
