Linkbuilding Using Blogs and Social Media

I run a small business and I want to try to do the SEO on my website for myself. I'm interested in how I used social media sites, blogs and bookmarking to linkbuild.

This questions are obviously going to be very amateurish but any help would be appreciated. For instance, can I use more than one type of blog ie. blogger.com, wordpress? Can I put the same content on all of these sites? If not, what is a way round this that doesn't mean writing 100% original content for each blog site?

With the bookmarking, as well as putting the option for people to do that on my site - can it be used in another way? Is it possible to set up a account yourself and bookmark pages on your site or is that seen as unethical?

How can you use social media for linkbuilding?

Thank you for any words of wisdom.

You can social bookmark your own site.

The blogging.. I am guessing and going out on a limb, but from what I have read.. Blogging and Article submissions must be 100% unique content on every different site, otherwise it is considered spamming.

Viral Link Building like Social Media can start your website visibility and create a far greater viral effect in a much shorter time. It is an essential website promotion strategy. You can use social media by promoting or introducing your site to a community , you can participate in the related discussion and submit a related article that is can attract a potential reader.

Blog Link will have nofollow attribute some time so it will not contribute any thing in your task. second if you are making your blogs than you need to add unique content in it.

Social Book mark in dofollow attribute will do best. Find out list of nice do follow social bookmarking sites like Digg.com.

submit your story with great title Description and more important add your targeted keyword(Tag). that will give you each link per keyword if it will searched by some one.

the best way to attract a viewer or a readers is to have unique content. an interesting information. maybe the best way for you is to create relevant blogs pointing to your main site and bookmark its contents and submit one or two of your posts to article directories. in this way you will earn much more reputation on your business. good luck!

I've just copied this from a post i did on http://www.davidcastle.org/BB/

Quote:
Orite Chris, I use digg, delicious and many other social bookmarking sites all the time.

Here's an example. About a week ago a client of mine (who manufactures, retails and knows a lot about heat pumps) added his first blog post titled "the facts and benefits of a heat pump". Once he'd uploaded the post I went on to all the social bookmarking sites that I had time to and submitted the post. I used digg, stumbleupon etc but i also submitted the post to more specific environmental social bookmarking sites, the best one I think is Hugg, who i have no affiliation with by the way! I have friends on these sites who ill message and ask to thumbs up, digg (etc) my clients post to give it a fighting chance.

Once you've submitted a post a few things happen. It creates inbound links from the social sites in question and it sends a huge spike of visitors to the post. I think he got around 300/400 that afternoon and evening. The links (and the fact that his blog is set-up correctly) mean the post is picked up quickly and indexed (it was number 7 on Google for heat pump benefits after a few days). The traffic drops very quickly but the position, so far, has stuck.

As an SEO what I need is for some of those 300/400 visitors to like the post so much that they link to it, or look at the rest of his site and link to part of that. Then someone finds the link on the linkers site and they like it and link to it also. Viral linking!

I've found that the method above works really well for achieving high positions for long tail keywords but for more generic keywords you need to do more. The success comes from the quality of the article, post, page (or whatever) that you bookmark. If its a REALLY REALLY REALLY good article then it will carry on building links and attracting visitors for a relatively longer period of time.

Feel free to add me on all the various sites. Its http://delicious.com/mattinertia on delicious. If you view my social_media tab you'll see what i use and can add me from there. Same goes for anyone else!

To answer a few of your questions. Upload wordpress to your site, dont bother with any other blog software and setup the blog correctly (there are plenty of online tutorials, articles and posts telling you how to do this). Dont worry about duplicate content, social bookmarking DOES NOT create duplicate content issues. How can it? If youre submitting articles to other sites just make sure you post it on your site/blog first, do the social bookmarking work and when the article is indexed on your domain start submitting it elsewhere.

EDIT: Oooh! Nearly forgot! Good point from chicken, link all the keywords in your post back to the page on your main site which you are trying to rank for said keyword.

Hey Guys

As per my opinion not all but most of blog sites are no-follow so the link will not be counted in Google. social bookmarking is helpful for your site but if the site is no-follow then meaning less to do bookmarking for SEO purpose. if you add your links in only do-follow social bookmarking sites that have good value so it's the best way to submit your URL, title and Description in following sites for getting more traffic and number of backlinks.

@littlekismet - dont worry about nofollow. Social bookmarking is not about artificial link building its about viral link building!!! Who cares if the social bookmarking site in question is no follow when its sending you 100s of visitors?

Read my post above!

Why you add your content in sb sites just because you need good traffic if you think you add your website is sb sites for Google ranking then it is not very worthy if you would like to improve your website ranking then its better get back links from relevant website. Now question is why we do seo our one point is we would like to improve our traffic of website. When we add our articles in any sb sites we get handsome traffic from their and digg is very popular and very good sb site. Okie digg use no follow link we mayn’t get benefit regarding link juice but we get more traffic…………..

second it is not as easy to get handsome traffic from SB as we are submitting our story.

For Good traffic you have good strategy which we call social media optimization.

Thank u 4 yr help - just a couple more questions. What does 'when the article is indexed on your domain' mean? And...please bear with me......when I bookmark the blog do I set up each account as the name of my business/website? Yr saying put Wordpress on my site but even despite the no follow if I were to put a blog on a industry related blogging site that would be beneficially right because I could still put the website address in even though it wouldn't create a backlink?

Like i said, dont even think about nofollow in this situation. Lets all forget that its even been mentioned on this thread.

Follow this procedure.

Install wordpress on your current site (follow wordpress instructions, easy!).

Write some blog posts.

Visit all the industry relevant social bookmarking sites and all the other general ones and sign up for an account. You can call yourself whatever you like but I would recommend setting up an account as your nickname. This is social media after all and should be informal and non-business like!

If you have any friends already using these sites then visit their specific area on the social bookmarking site and add them as a friend.

Submit the URL of the new blog posts on your blog to the social media sites and send an email to your new social media friends asking them to "digg" your bookmark.

That should be enough for loads of other people within your industry to see the bookmark and visit your blog post. If they like it they will link to it from their blog or site. Thats where your link building comes in, which is why nofollow means nothing in this situation.

The duplicate content thing does not apply to any of the above and applies to submitting articles to article sites. That needs to be discussed on another thread.

I am seriously considering using a an article submission site to post up my article on 200 different sites. Are u saying I"ll be penalized by Google? marked as SPAM?

Thanks for your help
