link your competitors off high rankings

As link text plays a very important role in search engine ranking. Theoritically, It is possible to knock off your competitors off the first page of search results with one high PR (5 or above) irrelevant link.

Irrelevant links donít affect negatively your ranking. It is possible they cont less that the relevant ones but they still cont and help you with the PR and ranking.

That depend on how many suitable links your competitor have.
For example, your competitor have 100 BL with suitable anhor text. if you can put more than 100 absurd anchor text links from different websites then may be that works. In the other hand, your competitor's PR go higher and higher.

As Google said that "There is almost nothing a competitor can do to harm your ranking or have your site removed from our index."

Are you sure about this? As back links are out of your control they canít affect negatively your ranking. If what you say is true anyone can make a high PR porn site and add links to their competitors sites thereÖ

I do not think you may hurt a site linking to it.
Maybe less value is given for it but not a penality.

I think irrelevant link text will confuse search egnines in computing relevance. Anyone care for an experiment?

Don't do that. You don't want to see a lynch mob of angry Frenchmen who want to play Cribbage.

I live close enough to Ottawa, and Montreal to be part of the fallout.

Ummm, is that a question or a statement?

If its the latter, could you perhaps, as maths teachers are fond of saying, "Show your working"? What theory? What logic? Which patent? What examples? Based upon what understanding? I know of no example or otherwise that supports such a notion, even in theory.

If its a question, could it perhaps be rephrased as one "Is it theroetically possible..." rather than stating anything.

It is just that the post confuses me, and I have no real idea what it is all about, or why you posted it / what it all means.

I want to see facts of reasoning. I have no joy with that statement as Google will have thought of that and I havenít seen evidence of that. Page and website theme only helps! If the theme is non related no penalty but no help either!

Otherwise people could hurt their competition by just making random sites and linking to their competitors right? Defeat the whole purpose of a search engine.

I have personally benefited from backlinking to themed sites but I haven't been penalized for linking from non-themed sites.

Actually someone tried that on my site...my site currently sits number one for my primary keyword.
I also reported the people that were linking to me. I can attest that it has no bearing.
I find it funny that people spend so much energy on playing dirty and trying to sabotage other people. If you took that energy and directed it in making yourself a better SEO expert, there is only a win to gain.
