    Link Text question

I have a question about how the search engines handle link text of backward links. I am wondering if they parse the link text phrase into individual words and give relevancy for one word or the other. I put together a scenerio to clarify my question:

    hypothetical scenerio:

    Given:
A website has 1000 backward links with the link text containing a string of two keywords (special widgets).

    hypothisis:
Search engines would display the website with a search for either 'special' or a search for 'widgets'

Is this correct or does the entire phrase (special widgets) need to be queried for the seach engines to display the website.

    Thanks for any help.

    John

    Hello John!

The answer to your question is all three! - With a site that has been optimized for "special widgets" and has inbound links of those keywords, it will show up for the query's "special", "widgets", "special widgets" and even "widgets special".

However, the site is likely to be ranked a lot higher for the query "special widgets" only.

The boost is probably equal but the one word terms have ALOT more results therefore the comptetition is stiffer.

Lets take my site Best Online Casino Directory

before this crazy dance it was

    #1 Best Online Casino
    #1 Casino Directory
    #1 Online Casino Directory
    #3 Online Casino
    #2 Best Casino
    #47 Casino
#79 for Best - While considering the amount of results for the word Best (132 mill) #79 aint too shabby.
God only knows where I come up for directory - I stopped searching at 2,000

    Hope this answers your question.

Try to include Sitemaps, to help crawlers locate and analyze different web-pages of your site. This is one way to get Google index a website.

Are you two (Web Listings and Mr. Hanks) offering this excellent advice to someone who asked the question 10 years ago?

Look at the dates on the thread before you answer questions...other wise you'll look like an idiot.
