Google displays a random selection of the links it knows about.

Sometimes you can have 100 links and it will display none.

The Google link comaind is not accurate.

The yahoo link command is much more accurate.

Why does Google do this? To hide the workings of its algorithm.

I have tested this a lot, there is no correlation between number of links displayed in Google and the actual number of links to a particular site.

Have you tried using Google Webmaster Tools? You can see a lot such as crawl rate, external and internal links, see what's cached, errors, and more.

You can then possibly identify the problem from there.
Hope this helps,
Jesse

How long since you've been building links for your site? Google only update backlinks every 3 - 4 months. And also google only shows random sample of your links. If you want to see the real number of backlinks you can check it in google webmaster tool if you have an account.

thats right, but it doesn't mean that you don't have backlinks... noticed my other site that don't have any visible google baclinks, but still ranks well and have PR...

Real number of backlinks through webmasters tools??

Forget it, even that wont show you the Real number though a far far better number than the link: command.

tstolber was right about why Google does that IMO.....

I think this "link:" command is really sending a surge of queries here at SEO chat.......We cant have stickies for all the topics, is'nt it?

Try link: your domain name.
Put a space between the colon and your domain name. Let us know if it works

If you leave a space Google will return any url which includes your domain name (linked or not), because the "link" operator doesn't work that way.

Well... suprisingly the answer is the same

When you use the "link:www.mysite.tld" command in Google they will return a random sample of your backlinks...
The random sample may change approximately 4 times per year but it is still a random sample!
