    Link Manager Software Penalty?

In a solicitation for a link a webmaster wrote to me, "Due to the latest changes in Google and it ignoring links coming from my link pages I moved to another link management software (this time it's a free one :->) that was recommended by other webmasters." My question is: Does anyone have a list of which "link management software" Google is "ignoring"? And question #2: how can you tell if your link is on a "link management software" produced page?

    Thank You!

I'm not sure you can tell. I realize that isn't much of an answer but this question came up when I was researching something completely unrelated and ..... Maybe someone else knows?

If you're using a server based link management program such as link manager, google will find the link in the page and ignore your links pages altogether.

    My suggestion? Two of them.

    1. Don't use a server-based link management program to manage your links.
    2. Don't reciprocate if you can find another way of doing it.

If someone asks me for a reciprocal link, and/or if I already have a reciprocal link, how can I tell if that link is "server" based? Thank you!

don't use any link management software. If you build your links for users, not for search engines, you'll be safe.

They were probably talking about your links page being on links.asp/.html/.php

In personal expierence with current sites, anything that is on a page named links.* does not transfer backlinks nor PR to the sites listed it on it.

Change the links manager page to onlinepartners.html or online-resources.html etc..

They could've meant something else, but building links with these tools is not harmful if done with dilegence and not oversaturated.

digital1, So would that in turn boost the site with the links.php by not sending the PR? Secondly can I get you to share an example? Thanks.

If you have a website that has a links page, and its name is links.html that site/page no matter how much PR it has will not pass its PR or backlink status to anyone listed on that page.

    Website1.com / links.html

Website2.com - We are website 2, click us!

If links.html has a PR6 and website2 is linked on that page, Website2.com will not recieve any PR boost or backlinks from it.

I've seen this specifically happen with 3 sites now and the only ones that get hurt are the ones that have links.html.

I cannot say for sure this is true but every other site that is not named links.html but rather online-partners.html remains to pass PR onto the links on the page.
