Link juice?

Just a quick question...

is a link with no juice better than no link at all?

for example:

five directories with 0 pr (toolbar not actual)

would this negatively affect my serps? or is the worst possible scenario no affect?

As long as you are not linking back... there is no backlink that can hurt you. Linking back to "bad neighborhood" pages can bring grief.

Bottomline: All backlinks are good... some better than others. Some give good juice... others are dry but have no negative effect.

Like SEO_AM says if you are not linking back it can't harm you.

I don't think its possible for any link to have 0 juice although I do consider the possibility of link dilution which is why I only go after qualty links.

Bear in mind that even if a link had 0 benefit SEO wise it could still atract a vistor and get your indexing rate increased slightly. By that token evena link with no juice is worthwhile.

I think forum links are about as close to zero link juice as you can get. You might get some focused traffic, but super little help from the link itself. I had thousands of forum links. Deleted them... ZERO affect on PR or SERPs.

just have a mix of links.

but remember if you are trying to build up your own pr then remember that 5 x 0 = 0

but of course like mentioned above, even if you have links that have a pr of 0 to your site, they can still bring in some unique traffic to your site which is always useful

get as many links with the target a-text as you can as a site that is PR0 today may end up being the high PR link that keeps you arround tomorrow

Relevance

Benifactor,

I'd worry less about the Google PR and more about:

1. The anchor text
2. The relevance of the page
3. The recency of Google's last crawl

Google toolbar PR is just one factor in Google optimisation.

tstolber agrees: People worry far too much about PR

I don't really worry about the PR of my links, especially the directory links. As was said, no one-way link can hurt you, so there's no risk.

There is still a possible reward, though, because that PR 0 site may become PR 4 by next year. This happens a lot with directories that are free when they first start out, then switch to paid once they establish a PR.
