Question Link to index (PR5) or the forum (PR6)

I need a clear answer to have the best SERP in this case.
I have most of the links link to the index page. DMOZ also links to the index page.

BUT...a PR 6 website links to my forum page and thanks to that website (backlinks over 100+), my forum has a PR of 6 while the index has a 5.

In addition, most SERP in Google provides link back to the forum pages and not the index page. But if I type the main keyword, it provides the index page on Google

So, should I change all my links from index page to the forum?

I wouldn't. Why would you want to?

This way you are giving more pages in your site weight in the SERPS which in turn gives your whole site a boost. You'll even get 'double' results in Google (one result below the other) for some of your terms thereby pushing a possible competitor off the page

I don't get it. It would be more advantage if I keep all the links at the index page and not to the forum? Why?

Although G looks at individual pages it also accounts for your site as a whole. Provided your index pages has some links it really doesn't matter where links to your site go - the index page or otherwise - you'll still be increasing your overall clout on the web. SEOChat is a good example. Do a search for SEOChat in G. Way to take up the first 4 spots and knock the 'number 2' down to 'number 5'

I would add..What is the mian focus of your site? Are you an e-commerce that has a forum just to add content? Or is the main focus the forum (maybe you have adsense ads on it)

Part of SEO is to first have a business plan. Drive your traffic to where you get conversions. If thats your forum then I wouldn't hesitate to get my links pointing there. Jane is right, though, that you won't Lose anything by promoting both, but if one is signifigabtly more profitable than the other, why split your resources.

It's always of advantage to have several power pages that drive the most traffic. You don't want one master page but hundreds or thousands of them.
