    Smile lightbox images and google

The lightbox plugin I use puts the full-sized image as a link and the thumbnail as the image src. As an example:

    Code:
    <a href="full-image"><img src="thumbnail-size" /></a>
I have read that the image src needs to be the full sized image, in order to properly optimize for Google. Is that still true? Or has Googlebot learned to understand lightbox presentations?

I don't want to kill my image SEO by using a lightbox gallery.

    Hello Perci,

To my understanding Google still do not able to read real raw image. So lightbox image presentation may be not a problem for SEO.What you can do is to specify alt tags in it with right keyword.

If I just have an image sitemap, would that not ensure images are picked up correctly?

I think you misunderstood the question. My concern is that google will only see the thumbnail image and not the full-sized image. I always use alt text. But google likes the large images, and that's what I want to feed it. The lightbox puts the large image in the link but not the img src.
