Lightbox affecting Google SERPS

Hi,

I have had a website that was launched about 6 weeks ago. Quickly it moved up the SERPS and I was receiving some great visitor numbers from a wide range of terms.

Last week, I added the Lightbox the javascript photo display to one page of the site. Since then I have seen my positioning on key terms fall, is this just a coincidence, or does Google penalise websites that use Lightbox?

Thanks

Al

You are just the victim of the google's "new site boost effect" which just shoots up a new website in the SERP's and gradually settles to the actual ranks where a new site belongs.

That's my bet on it!

Nothing to worry though.

And Al! That was well and good to experience that effect, but you've got to come up with a decent SEO strategy altogether in order to re-establish yourself and consolidate back on those lost SERP's.

all the best!

Just a confirmation, with your browser and take a screen shot on the page where you put the lightbox. Now, turn the scripting off (javascript off , this can be turn off in the browser), take a screen shot again on the page. Compare the two screenshots. Are there any changes?

Check for sudden text appearing when scripting is off, but this text cannot be seen when scripting is on. This text cannot be seen by visitors but can be seen by search engines and is a form of cloaking, a problem that can result to ranking issues.

Just confirm to make it sure your page is clean.

Hi Emerson,

I have done as you told me to and have seen that when Javascript is switched off, it does not show any text, and as such the site does not appear to be cloaking any content!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post and making a suggestion!

Thanks

al
