    Hello
I think google just released a core algorithm

Just curious if you all see the same as me with my website on page 1 in Google SERPs for the search: “google algorithm 2016″?The latest update seems to be giving my site some good positions for Google’s brand in long-tail searches.

I haven't heard anything through the usual grapevines. SERoundtable has been speculating for a few days that Penguin may be coming soon.

But this thread is for confirmed Google updates and it isn't really the right place for speculation. Feel free to post a separate thread in the future, though, for that sort of thing.

    I also don't understand...

Was there a update end of August 2016, begin September 2016 in the Google Algorithm? I have checked the positions for my keywords in google search and compared it with the fluctuations from this report on: pi-datametrics.com/september-2016-algorithm-update/

the sudden increase and hard drop in the beginning of September was also visible on these charts from that website. Do you guys have the same problem?

Not sure what to do about it now.

I do not believe that Google has confirmed an update for early September, but many webmasters and SEOs say that there was one. They're calling it "Possum," I think. You can read more here: Everything you need to know about Google's 'Possum' algorithm update

The first few pages of this thread on WebmasterWorld are also about "Possum," I think: https://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4817284.htm

    To continue updating this thread:

Penguin 4.0 was announced last Friday (September 23rd). We have a thread for that here: Penguin is now part of the core algorithm

There are links to news articles in that thread. If you want more discussion, check out WebmasterWorld's coverage: https://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4819521.htm

Did anything happen around 5th February? I 've started losing clicks from that moment and I am using same methods as in previous months.

    Hello and welcome!

There is some speculation that something happened on February 7th, but Google's only response so far is "no comment": Google: No comment on possibility of a Feb. 7 algorithm update

Google has said that https will be a ranking factor. Any idea, how strong ranking factor? This is important, because the change from usual http to more secure https is a big job.]

Its not as big as you think, I tend to use cloudflare which is free unless you want some of the advance features, but they have a section for rules which can convert all your media over as well.

How much of a ranking factor though, difficult one to answer, I would doubt its much but if google have a few sites of simular quality and 1 is https and the others are http then yes it may be prefered over the none secure sites. But if the other sites are beating you on page rank then I doubt you will see much of a change. But every little helps as the saying goes.

Hard to say whether "Fred" is an update in the traditional sense yet - there is some debate about it. But it is the most recent Google algorithm eh...phenomenon? You can find news and discussion here: Fred and the Phantoms - Punk Band or Google's Latest Update Gossip?
