Keyword Popularity

Whats a good website/tool out there to check for keyword popularity? I'm trying to figure out what best keywords it will be to optimize for and I was wondering if there is a way to see how many times that term is searched for per day on Google.

I know Google Adwords gives you the "Popularity" of the keyword, but it doesn't seem to associate any actual numbers with it.

Can anyone recommend a way to check?

Thanks!

You may want to try: http://www.keywordelite.com/

I have found it very useful and it gives you an estimate of the daily searches at Google pulled from the Adwords Keyword Suggestion Tool Data. It also allows you to pull data from multiple sources. You can find an excellent review written by Visio at his blog:

Also one of the best sources for keyword data from multiple sources is: http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/

This is Googles Keyword Tool. It doesn't give exact numbers but it does show search volume against advertiser competition which is what you really want to look at.

I apply a conversion factyor the the scale and extrapolate the numbers out to be a close approximation of real numbers. I find it to be quite an effective technique and the price of $0 is good.

You can try the suggestions above, but take note that the conversion rate of your keyword is more important than the searches.

Select the best keywords that you believe people will be using to buy products (hence will give the best conversion rate), than merely deciding what keywords to target based on searches.

Hey Europa,

Good post. I was wondering, why not WordTracker? I have not used any of the ones that you have mentioned, just Keyword Suggestion Tool by Google and SeoBook, but is WordTracker out of date? not as good as it used to be? etc..?

Just curious because I will be in the market soon.

Thanks in advance for yours or anyone elses suggestion.

Nice article, thanks for sharing it.

But at the beginning, I think you meant to type keywordelite.com; you typed keywordselite.com - the latter's a shallow affiliate site created by some guy called successweb. Great post otherwise; keyworddiscovery's a nice tool as well.

WordTracker (paid) is amazing when you want to pull lots of different variations from your core keywords. But if you don't want to pay for anything, SEOBook's keyword tool is about as good as it gets.

I used to use Wordtracker but I found their results very far off from the results of other sources when I gathered data from a larger pool of sources.

Pacific Monk....thanks for the correction....sometimes I do URLs from memory but I'll check them before posting them as a result of this error. Yes.....SEO book has great free tools and you will see that Andy Beal is quoted on the upper right hand portion of the landing page of Keyword Discovery. So.....I think we've covered some of the best. I'm sure two weeks from now we will have to repost again LOL!

Google matters. Do not try to figure out what 180 search engines do...
