Is there a "max" limit to the best length of the <title> description?

I have always used a mix of medium to long <title> and description text. And with mixed results.

Some doing great, others not. A friend of mine recently said that google prefers a max limit of 70 characters.

Is that correct?

I simple google search will give you your answer to the max character length for each search engine. As for an ideal length, there isn't one, it's the words you put into the title that make a difference.

I should keep it to 64 characters, that's all Google shows in their SERP's anyway
