Is it best to scatter websites across multiple servers?

It would be great to hear peoples opinion on this. Is it best to scatter websites across multiple servers, as opposed to being on the one server for the best SEO benefits for Google?

I try to keep all of my websites seperate. Just dont want google to know that i run all of them. They have enough information already. I might be paranoid but there has been talk of google penalizing multiple websites because of owning them all although google themselves say this is not true.

Don't put all your eggs in the same basket. Sounds familiar?

What applies to real life is also true on the web.

Just imagine about a server crash and all your sites down at the same time.

On an SEO point of view, if you cross-link your different websites, it is better to have them on different C classes of IP addresses.

But crosslinking is not the best option anyway.
