Links posted on Twitter are backlinks... without juice.
The thing is, many other sites are aggregating twitter feeds... so the links can then become follow, rather than nofollow.
Problem is, though... most links in twitter are shortened using a bity or tinyurl or whatever... so they redirect. Which means: no direct link, no juice.

I do see backlinks from Twitter in my Google Webmaster account. Does anybody else?
In order to not have a bitly or tiny url link, you must put the link in the beginning of tweet and hope that the URL is not too long.

I heard any URL in a tweet over 5,000 characters long gets shortened. Is that true?
Please, for now, look to Twitter as a source of traffic not backlinks. If there is a way for these totally anonymous 'tweets' can improve upon your SERPs... I am sure that Google will eventually ban them from appearing in the SERPs because they are even more useless than a free directory link. Twitter and most all other social media, if good for you, is about traffic NOT backlinks.
