Is a non related website backlink with 0 outbound links a powerful link?
Hi there,
I have an opportunity on 2 websites of friends who own their own commercial company. Their pages are pr2 and they are happy to put a link with my anchor text at the bottom of their site.
they are not related niche companies to mine and i am just wondering if Google will see these are powerful links still?

They are not necessarily "powerful links" but they are better than nothing, so get them anyway. But don't get sitewide links (like a footer link that is replicated on many pages). A link on one page that has some PR is best.

Link Building Tip
Even if these websites are not related to yours in any way, it is better to get links than not get them at all. Well, i will object if you were getting links from porn sites.
Make sure in your anchor text u include your primary keyword as this will be a plus point, as opposed to just getting a link from a non related website.

If the site has many authority backlinks linking to it, it has more link power to push your site up the rankings. However, a site without any backlinks of its own is almost worthless.
Try to get a contextual link with some PageRank because those links are worth more. Also if the article has a few outbound links to sites related to you, this helps with 'co citation'.
EDIT
Previosly I said non related. Now I say that the less related to your site a link is, the less power it will have. So if you have a site about the universe and you get a link from a petshop, it's not really going to be worth much.

what if we ask them to create a 1 sentence line with our keyword as a backlink so it actually means something. would this create a more relevent backlink?

Anyways, Dont automatically think they are non related. The whole WWW is related for the most part. Now if it were "porn and SEO" thats a whole nother story.
Dont confuse relevance for relatedness either. To make the best of the link, you are going to have to build relevance into it.

im not sure if we are getting our wires crossed.
one of my friends has a well established marketing business and their website is PR2.
another of my friends has a business working in electrics this is also a PR2 site
Both these sites at the moment have 0 outbound links.
as my business falls under IT/Computers and internet which has very little relavence to marketing and electrics i am wondering if google will see these links as strong and quality still due to the face my site will be the only outbound link?

IT/Computers/Internet ---------- Marketing
IT ------ Electrics
seriously cant build the relevance into this? Granted, you might not get the anchor you want, but this is easy.

are you trying to advise that i wont be able to use my anchor text i want to use? such as "IT Consuling" "IT Support" etc and instead have to use "IT Electrics" as the anchor for e.g. for google to pass on the relevance?

Obviously links on a pr2 page of dell's website would be more relevant, but you're not gonna get that... this is free and it certainly won't hurt you, so take it.
"Quality" is subjective... so is "related" to an extent - like Alex says "The whole WWW is related for the most part"...
... so is porn and seo for me (fitting I should get to mention that in my post #5k)!

You can build the relevance a lot easier with using the word Technology
