    IP address location and Cloudflare

About 2 Weeks ago we used cloudflare to increase site speed, security ( http to https ).

In this process we pointed our UK ip address to cloudflare which now make our site show with a US ip address.
Our market is 100% UK based at the same time the site was migrated from http to https.
Almost all pages seem to have smoothly been 301 redirected to the HTTPS format and appear in google under the site search. The certificate also checks out on https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/ as recommended by google ( A rating )

The only problem we can think of it ip location or the site transition from http to https using cloudflare as we have been adding alot of good quality unique content over the last month keeping the site fresh.

Any thoughts and experience with these matters would be most appreciated.

I have checked on a number of whois sites....

    IP Address 104.28.12.48 - 337 o

IP Location United States - Arizona - Phoenix - Cloudflare Inc.
ASN United States AS13335 CLOUDFLARENET - CloudFlare, Inc. (registered Jul 14, 2010)

I point my UK ip address to Cloudflare who then pass all my traffic through there servers where its encrypted, optimized ( js, css etc )
The downside is that google and others see it with a US ip address now instead of the UK dedicated ip address I have.

If this is your affiliate site, you shouldn't have an issue, it's a quick website and you're targeting the UK with your domain.

    https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-and-seo/

Here's the bit I think is relevant with you:

With the cooperation of these search teams we were able to get CloudFlare's IP ranges are listed in a special category within search crawlers. Not only does this keep sites behind them from being clustered to a least performant denominator, or incorrectly geo-tagged based on the DNS resolution IP, it also allows the search engines to crawl at their maximum velocity since CloudFlare can handle the load without overburdening the origin.

That is very interesting. I think is it most likely then that does to the better site performance more of my site is being indexed picking up what might be deemed as internal duplicate content across the product pages. which were are talking about on another thread. The best way to test this out would be to either pick one page for canonicalise all pages to or remove the descriptions from all pages accept the one I want to rank for the specific term.

The IP location in this case isn't going to matter much because remember that CloudFlare distributes content across their CDN. So, a user hitting your domain from the UK will likely hit a server in the UK (yes the IP might be registered to a US company, but the server location is probably going to be UK, or at least in Euroland somewhere).

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you pointed your UK IP to cloudflare though.

You change your DNS server to point to cloudflare which basically then acts as a firewall between the user and your site. It also compresses and Caches content.

It's a great service which keeps my VPS running fast but if I use a Firefox plugin to check the whois data it still fires back a US ip location but that could be due to who is pinging the server.

I disabled Cloudflare a day or so ago. I will report if long-tail start to return with a standard static UK based ip location

    Hi TPN
We are facing the same issue.
We have a London based website that serves customers worldwide, but we want Google to continue to see that our website and service is London based.
Cloudflare shows our IP address to be US based

Did switching off cloudflare and showing Google a UK based ip location help with your long tail?
Really hoping to hear from you

    Cheers
    MHas
