Internal site structure
Ok, so I'm doing some consulting with a guy who creates movies, He just put it up a little bit ago then after it was up he contacted me.
Links are not really going to be a problem, he's done work for the YMCA, Bill Gates Foundation, etc etc who are all willing to link, plus a lot of news places are interviewing him and will probably do the same. My problem is this, as you can see there is no text on the site. He does not want text on the site really, he makes video's, artists are tough to work with. I explained to him, he wants to know if there is some way to have a closed captioning button you know that could provide the text of what the video is about that google would accept. I can't think of any to be honest about it. My understanding is that we need at least some words on the page in most cases. Exception of course is the who click here where the site that ranks highest does so because of the number of links that say click here. This leads to another problem though, most of the sites that will link to him are news or movie directories that say official site. I don't think I can write the New York tTmes and say click here. So does anyone have any thoughts on this. If I had links to pages with text from the home page, or a site map with text pages would that count at all for text on the home page? Each of the pages on site I worked on before always seemed to be treated somewhat seperate as far as Google. Any thoughts?? Last edited by creatingstuff : August 18th, 2008 at 12:04 AM. |

You just posted this information in a very public and very powerful SEO forum. It is likely that your thread here will rank highly for this guy's name and will be seen by many people. If you don't have his permission to post this info here or don't want him to know what you are saying/don't know how to handle this job then you might consider editing your post.

I agree with Egol, careful when posting URLs here.
Content comes in many forms, text, video, images etc. Some of the biggest websites have very little 'text content', look at youtube and Flickr. The aim of any website 'should' be to bring valuable content, in your clients case, his valuable content is the video's. Inbound links, will prove the contents worth.
