You need more than 18.7k backlinks to rank number one in Google.
On a serious note you need to learn more about SEO, it's not the volume of link that a site obtains its the quality of those links. For example if you site and my site both were about widgets and your site had 1k backlinks from blog commenting, social networking and forum posting, but my site had 1 link from CNN, 1 link from BBC and 1 link from the Times online, I would probably rank higher, even though you have more links.
