    Importance of insite anchor text

    hi !,

How important is insite anchor text ? I'm creating big site (10k pages) form my client and i'm thinking about putting on each page link to index.html with primary keyword as anchor text. Will it help rank good on this primary keyword or it will make a minor boost ?

My initial reaction is to say that Google ignores internal site backlinks, but I've seen them listed in the IBLs if the sub-pages are over PR4.

To this day, I still think Google ignores them as far as PR goes, but I know they are counted as IBLs. As far as how much weight those IBLs have coupled with their keyword anchors is yet to be proven in my books.

    See, I totally disagree.

PR is based upon the PR of the pages that link to you, so internal links should bring PR back to the home page. Of course since a) they are probably reciprical, b) probably derive much of their PR from the home page and c)aren't a unique domain, the PR they give your home page might be negligible.

    But it's still something

OK, but my question was about anchor text, not PR. Now it is important to get as much anchor text as possible with keywords, so i was thinking in putting important anchor text links on all pages.

What do you mean by "anchor text links"? Just links to your home page with kw relevant wording? Like I said, that's exactly what you want to do.

Yep, you're correct; if you get more anchor text links with relevant keywords, you'll begin to climb in the SERPs. PR does not carry the weight it used to anymore at the medium and lower ends. PR really only begins to matter when you are competing for keywords that are in the company of PR 7 sites with 1000 IBLs.

Eclipse: " is important to get as much anchor text as possible with keywords" Yes, at least as much as with external links.

Internal text links help tremendously because it helps theme your website to Google. Google only knows what your pages are about by your internal text links (and content) but most of the value is given by your text and the amount of times you link to a certain page. Mix in acouple of good backlinks and you'll be off to a nice start.

    PK:

That seems like a logical statement and I'll have to perform some tests to validate the internal link theme building theorm.

That would be interesting to see.

The concept is simple. You state what your pages are about. Your BL state what your pages are about. They match you gain value. They dont match you gain squat. Thats how Google filters unrelated links and sorts each page into it's own category.

It's not just one thing Google looks at but multiple factors and if they all align BINGO you got yourself a well ranking themed and most importantly relevant web page.
