Idea for links
like most webmasters on here I'm sure, I regularly receive emails from "link building experts", stating that they have placed a link on one of the pages on their site to my home page and ask for a reciprocal link back.
the problem with this is that the page they put my link on has usually a page rank of zero, one of the reasons for this I think is because.....
1) the page itself has not got any internal links pointing to it, which in turn makes the page invisible to google.
My question is this......if I post a link to that page from my twitter account would it mean google may then index the page and then I would receive a slight advantage from the link or not?.
Just a idea I had, would be interested to know if its worth doing.

Yes it would help Google at least find it. (whether or not they would index it is not guaranteed)
The problem though is that there is absolutely no 'juice' going to it to be passed on to you because the only link pointing to it is 'nofollow' (Twitter).

I would advise you to ignore such requests unless:
1. The site/page is relevant to yours.
2. The page is a "real page" (as opposed to a "links page").
Giving out links to other websites is important, but you must be careful to choose worthy sites, rather than "all-comers", otherwise you risk downgrading your own website, leaking PR for no good reason and (possibly) linking to bad neighbourhood sites (which could degrade your rankings).

ClickyB posted the definitive response here.
The typical webmaster who posts a link and asks for a link back is following an old school strategy and placing the links on a links page that has tons of links to irrelevant sites making that page pretty useless.
I always see posts here complaining about a page not getting indexed and yet I have never experienced a new page not getting indexed. If a page is unique content then it will get indexed IMHO.
It seems to me like some webmasters have this belief that the more pages they have the better. That is not strictly true, useless pages don’t do anything for you.
I recently overhauled one of my old sites that had been neglected for a long time and in the process turned a site that had 98 pages (all indexed) into a site with 28 pages. I of course redirected the pages that had back links and removed useless pages through webmaster tools and within three days of launch Google’s site:mysite.com cleaned out all the old pages and displayed all 28 new pages.
Sites rankings improved and visitor numbers went up by about 10%.

Thanks for your responce ! I never link back to them anyway unless they are relevant but been as they have already put a link to my site, I had a idea that i might try to give google a help in hand to try to find it, just wondering if it was worth doing, cheers
p.s if it did work it would be a one way link

Hello
I also get such types of mail its is not harm full in link exchanging but you need to be aware before choosing you cant put all links on your site. Always check their source code to see that if they have posted your right link on their site or not? Also check their site in some days because it might be possible that they will remove your link two three days.

Im not asking about reciprocal linking, Im asking about getting some benefit from the link they have already placed on their site if I was to help google find the link, although I appreciate your responce we are going a bit off track now.

Are you sure that the link back is real? A while ago we had a link request like this from a prominent site. When I checked the page it had a single link back to our real estate site. It looked good so I placed a recip link back to them.
Then, one day I checked their site from a different computer and there was a different realtor's link on that page.
It turns out it was a scam. There were thousands of realtors all thinking that they were the recommended realtor for this site. I'm guessing it is a cookie thing...the page was probably programmed to recognize, "Oh, this is so and so, so let's put their link up on the page."
When I checked the backlinks there were thousands of realtors backlinking to this same page...all of them thinking that they were the only link on this high PR page.
So, beware...if it seems too good to be true then it probably is.
