An effective way is to put
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex">
in the head section of each of your pages.

And/or replace your content with dummy pages (with the same URLs as the old pages).

Then wait for Google to recrawl and reindex.

Does your website no longer exist at all, or do you just want it deindexed?
    Only from Google or everywhere?

Why would you want to have your site removed from google index? Do you own the site or is it a clients site?

If you are asking to do this to a site you don't own, you will not have the power to do it as you will need access to the sites hosting.

Please do tell why you would want your site deindexed though as this is a strange question to be asking IMO.

If you have Google Webmaster Tools set up for the site, you can specify what URLs to remove there in Site Configuration>Crawler Access>Remove URL.

Mind you, it can take some time for those URLs to be removed from Google.

    If you add

    user-agent: *
    disallow: /

to your robots.txt file in the root directory of the domain...then enter the webmaster tools for the site you can do it from there and Google will kill it in a matter of hours to a few days.

With the other search engines you should be able to do the same thing.

That said: the robots.txt/Google method is only temporary. Especially if you have a decent amount of inbound links.

You REALLY have to nuke your inbound links

I'm sorry but that won't work. The stuff will be cached for years and years.

Really? I have had sites go down for a week unnoticed and they disappeared. Good call though, thanks for the correction.

It depends on the number of backlinks really. If other people/websites feel the webpages should stay up, then they WILL stay up.

At closer inspection (your right) but if you have a domain like say Google.com - sell it, or delete the website, kill all emails, drop hosting or put up a placeholder page and let it expire...

I'm sure there's a market that only trusts cahce view only pages from years ago... but ****'em!

Clarify, please. Can't understand what you're saying is happening here. Are you saying that you no longer own the domain and someone else has purchased it and is redirecting or placed content in place of yours?

If you no longer own the domain...
then it's pretty much out of your hands now.

Not saying this is it... just noting 1 possible why... I'm roped into a get-rich-quick-scheme that promises riches to other... and because everyone want to be their own boss some day they got a certain amount of success only to find out "it was all a scam"... so what do you do?

If you can't afford to make amends... disappear... like it didn't happen.

The unfortunate thing, good people get rope into these thing and then don't know how to get out.
