    I really need some SEO help, Im a self taught newbie

    Hello, so basically everything I know about making a website and SEO is stuff I read on various forums and websites.
    I finally finished a gaming website which Ive linked on several different gaming forums and I put key words and phrases through out the website. It's been up for about a week but still when I search for it in google nothing shows up. I dont have anything illegal on it. Maybe I have the meta stuff wrong? Here it is below:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="cache" />
    <meta name="robots" content="INDEX,FOLLOW" />
    <title>My Gaming Website</title>
    <meta name="keywords"I put about 10 - 12 keywords here" />
    <meta name="description" content="I put the website description right here.....................It is exactly this long with maybe about 20 - 22 words" />

    Should I just put a link to my website so you can check it?

    Really appreciate the help...

    Just a week? 5 days or 7 days?...patients grasshopper, give it a little more time.

    Are you searching [site:your-url.com] to see what pages google has?

    Nothing wrong with the meta, and no..we don't need to see your site. As long as you have a good link to this site, Google will find it. You could also submit a sitemap.

    Haha, I think its been 6 days...I just got worried because I also hosted a different website and installed a Simple Machines Forum on it. All I did was install the Simple Machines application, put a title, made a few boards. And that website started automatically showing up on google within a day or 2 without me even putting any links to it.

    Also one more question maybe you can help me with, does google look at the keyword density per page or for the whole website?

    Like, if I 'stuffed' (not on purpose of course, I just think it might be stuffed because of what I had to write explaining certain things) one or two of my pages with keywords, I understand that google will ignore the pages. Does that mean just those pages or will it ignore my whole website?

    Thanks so much for your help.

    Oh ok thank you for the heads up.

    Would you be able to answer my question about the keywords? Does Google look at the density of keywords per page or is it for the whole website? I was told that if Google thinks that a page is 'stuffed' with keywords, it will simply ignore the page. Lets just say just one of my pages is 'stuffed' with keywords, does that mean it will ignore that page or will it ignore my whole website? Thanks.

    Keyword density has nothing to do with ranking, create your content so it's appealing to the user and not the search engines and you'll be fine.

    This is my personal belief and lost of people will disagree. Plus, I am writing this for an information page, not a retail page.

    In general keyword density is not critical. You don't need 5 times or a certain percentage. What you need is a very readable presentation in natural language in which the keyword appears as it is needed. There is no need to stuff it in and no need to avoid.

    Now.... what I believe is important is RELATED KEYWORDS. If myr goal is to write a kickass article about a subject and make it one of the best on the web so that it ranks high (eventually). Here is what I do.

    I start with research on that keyword and find out what people are googling for that is related to that keyword.

    Let's say that my keyword is widgets and I use the google keyword tool and learn that people are searching for...

    different types of widgets
    who makes them
    history of widges
    etc. etc. etc.

    Then I write an article that addresses everything that everybody everywhere is asking for about widgets IN SUBSTANTIVE CONTENT.

    Each of these subtopics for widgets is included on the page as subheadings <h> and described thoroughly with photos, illustrations, tables of data.

    That is the start of a potentially killer page.

    Google knows what people are asking for and they can recognize when content covers all of those details in a substantive, rich beyond text presentation.

    I believe that people who have produced best-on-the web content that is substantive and complete will agree with me.

    If you want an example look at a wikipedia page for a topic such as "Philadelphia". Are you up to that?

    First off Thank you sir for the very informative response.

    I understand what your saying and that is actually kind of how I built my website with the exception of one thing which is explained below. Its a gaming website but for certain kind of gamers. The main focus of the website is Air Combat.

    I had a couple of keywords like pilot or dogfight in my 'keyword meta-tag'. I did use those words on most of my pages but I also have A lot of related words or phrases like helicopter, plane, jet, chopper, how to fly, etc... through out my website. So far the website has about 20 pages, about 20 videos, and maybe 150 pictures.

    The thing about 'stuffing' that worries me is that about 70 of the pictures (a few different pages) are in javascript galleries and I put my main keyword in the caption of EVERY picture. Most of the captions are 2-3 sentences long with no other keywords except the main one that I placed. Would you suggest that I remove that word from the captions and leave it as naturally written text?

    Last question...does it matter what my pictures are named? Before I even started to build the website, when I made my image folder, I put my main keyword in EVERY image file.
    Example: chair-image-1, chair-image-2, chair-image-3......., chair-image-58, chair-image-59.
    Is this a bad thing, a good thing or does it not matter?

    Thanks again

    Very intriguing proposal. I have previously written articles that combined the top 10 related keywords but never thought of separating them in sub-topics. This will work better without being spammy. Thanks for this great tip.
