Sounds like poor keyword research.

You can get on the front page of Google for any keyword, but if nobody is searching for that keyword you'll have low traffic.

Try increasing your CTR by adding enticement in your page titles. Fathom has written about how to do this several times on this forum.

Also be sure that you are not seeing personalized results. For ages I thought I was number one for several search terms until I learned about personalized search.

Do your search and then put &pws at the end of the url and hit enter and see if you are still number one.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or actually asking - but I'll assume serious:

If somebody searches for nike shoes on google, you can rank VERY well, but if your description or snippets texts aren't descriptive enough or don't arouse interest in the user then they will skip over it.

I personally do this, I'll go to the second or third page with a listing with a good description that's what I need rather than a number 1 ranking site that offers a general or 'SEO' style description.

I mean I think this is fairly common-sense, it all goes back to designing sites for the user, not the SE
