I have three Google questions
Hello,
I am working on a small personal website (cant post link forum rules). I have three questions regarding Google. 1) When I type in Carla Re in Google, my website comes in second. The first website is actually a domain for sale. How come it shows first? 2) When looking for let's say 'Chase' in Google, you get several links ('Logon' 'ATm Locator' etc) under the main link. How is that done? 3) Why Google shows my XML map in the search results? Thanks all for your help! |

It could be that the domain just went up for sale and had previously had a website on it not long ago. Quote:
These are site links. You get these if google feels you are an authority for this term and other pages on your website are relevant to it. Quote:
This is a google map, so if you are a buisness and someone searches for it in google, they will be shown a map of where to find your buisness. Hope this helps |

Thanks for your help. For the XML sitemap though I usually don't see it in the search results for other website how come Google reads it and displays the source? Maybe it is in the incorrect format? |

Maybe you forgot to block it in your robots.txt
Does the sitemap.xml have 'crawlable' links pointing to it?

I actually haven't locked it in robots.txt does it need to be dissalowed? 'Crawable' links? I cant post a link for the website but if you Google 'Carla Re' it's the second link. |

Well that's clear then.
You are linking to the sitemap.xml file yourself (bottom right of the page) Hence, Google thinks it is important, and will list it. By the way, if I had a website of only 5 pages, I would ditch the .xml and just make sure all the pages were just one click away from the home page. Other than that, the xml file is not offending. It's a sitemap, which - alas - is not very useful to humans (as a sitemap.html page would be). Don't lose any sleep over it |

if you block your sitemap (disallow it) in the robots text file that would be kind of counterproductive to what google needs to do to it, which is crawl it. when you disallow something you are telling google not to crawl it.
