How would i tell if a directory is authoritive?
How would i tell if a directory is authoritive?
What directories does yahoo really like and what directories does GOOGLE really like? If i made all my in bound links anchor text the same thing would i come up for the keyword? For example: web marketing |

Static directories are becoming less important to the SE's in general, in favor of the "active" web, i.e. social media (bookmarking, forums, blogs, sharing, etc.) But, some directories are still regarded as important. Yahoo loves...well, the Yahoo directory. Google loves DMOZ last time I checked. Both love Business.com. I personally loved the directory formerly known as "HackerSafe Merchant Directory" which is now owned and rebranded by McAfee. Many categories had pagerank of 5 to 8. Regarding your anchor text question: If I understand you correctly, yes, if you get enough anchortext (dofollow) links from decent directories, you will begin to rank for those anchor text keywords (assuming there are no issues "preventing" you from being easily indexed, no penalties on your site, etc.) "Web Marketing" might be a little tough to rank for at this point due to being highly general and competitive. Not sure what you are promoting, but you might look into drilling down further from a general market to a specific niche audience, by choosing longer tail keywords like: affordable web site marketing (just for example.)

Authoritative directories do not link to everyone who submits a link request. The accept a small fraction of all requested links. Only the highest quality sites are listed in these directories.

I have to disagree, the OP asked if they got ALL links with the anchor text would this help? IMO having every single back link containing the exact same anchor text would make their back link profile look very unnatural and manipulated and could well lead to you getting spanked by the "Big G" ![]() |

Ok. I have heard at one point or another to utilize social media sites, bookmarking, etc. and this is what GOOGLE and other giants are rewarding back links for not directories.
Well, most of my clients operate in metro areas. (ex. NJ, DE, PA) How would local businesses benefit from social media back links without participating in directores? And doesnt social media back links contain no-follow attributes, are these no follow links still given weight for relevancy? |
