How much will it cost?

Hi,

How much will it cost for my website to be transferred from a USA host to a UK host including server charges?

My website designers are saying that it will cost around £250 plus the hosting fee. is this correct?

Will it make a huge difference as i am targeting UK customers and its hosted in the US.

Any information is great.

Thanks.

I assume that your web designers are charging you for their time moving their site.. and we have no idea how big your site is so this might be a very reasonable or a very unreasonable sum depending!

Regardless of any SEO benefit moving your server to the UK will improved response times to users in the UK.

A .uk domain does not necessarily need to be moved to geolocate it as the uk extension does that for you already.

All thinks being equal though It just makes sense to host a site in the same location as the target market.

Try other hosting companies or web agencies, and ask them how much they will charge. You have a rough idea whether it is overpriced or not.

Yuo can pretty much over ride all of the more subtle geo flags (probably excluding adsense), ccTLD, IP, IBLs by registering the site with Google Webmaster Tools, verifying it (by one of two simple methods) and then setting your Primary Audience location.

Total Cost = $0.00

It will make a difference, and that difference could give you the edge.

The response time comment is very valid too and that has knock on effects for usability and bounce rate, which has a direct effect on SERPs themselves.

Set Geolocation in Google Webmaster Tools.
Host the site in the UK also.

The price for hosting depends on a lot of things.

www.Fasthosts.co.uk offer a pretty good basic package for around £5 per month. I have always been happy with their service and support.
They give you unlimited storage space and bandwidth (subject to a fair use policy) and also allow PHP to work with that. That caters for about 99.9% of sites on the web IMO.

FACT: Web hosting is a heavily oversold product and most customers use less than 10% of their allocated use.
What does that mean? Most people are paying for services they don't need and will never use.

many hosting companies will do a server migration for free, just have to give them root access to your current usa based server.
