The world of busy people is killing the world of people just browsing the web. It's grown from JUST SURFING for fun to addiction. Went to Disney World a few month back. Got on the Shuttle bus to go to the Epcot Center. About 40 others were on the bus and every single one had a digital device, most seem to be texting, some browsing their Facebook page but not a single person watched the Magical Kingdom come into view.

Google didn't change the world... We did.

Blaming Google for the changes in the world simply because they have innovated better, faster, and is also the most prolific monetizer of digital data the world has ever seen didn't cause the world to be glued to their digital devices. We did that... Google just happen to be watching us more closely than Tim Berners-Lee anticipated e.g. “You affect the world by what you browse.”

What an absolutely pointless, waste-of-time article from someone who doesn't know how to organise his bookmarks or search his history!

20 years ago if I needed to find a piece of information it meant leafing through books or leaver arch folders or even going down to the library.

So you visit a site, think its good but don't realise you need it until later and then can't remember what it is but hope that by searching "that site I liked but can't remember what it is" Google will bring it up???

Sure big brands have learnt how to dominate the web exactly as they learnt how to dominate other forms of media as they came along but the web (and Google) still offers small businesses a way in which they never had before.

What big brands/media have really learnt is that if you keep telling people to do something (like buy a soft drink or like their President) they will keep doing it even if there is a better alternative. Now whose fault is that?

OK - people are mobile addicted but in a way they are socialising and connecting virtually far more than they were physically. Is that a bad thing?

Amen brother! One of the coolest signs i've seen in a while is at a new, local pizzeria. It's hot pink and hand written on it is the message... "We don't have wifi... Talk to someone"

???? Talk to someone about getting wifi? Would rather go to the pizzeria across the street that has better customer service.

You're missing the point, fathom. The point is that there IS no WiFi, so you have to interact with your surroundings (i.e., actual human beings) instead of looking at your phone/tablet screen.

Actually there was no point. At the other end of a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop is an ACTUAL HUMAN BEING... don't kid yourself about that.

The Internet is about choice... Which is the value of wifi. If you choose not to use wifi that is your choice. Offering no choice, isn't much of a choice.

    That's the point.
