How to get in Google "nightclub" listings?

Search Google for "metro area nightclubs"

You'll see a row of nightclubs listed across the top of the page.

Is this just a new spin on the "lucky 7" local listings?

Is Google doing this for other business categories?

Any idea what factors decide which nightclubs get listed in this thumbnail row?

    Thanks for the thought.

No, it's not PPC... I known club owners in a couple of cities that have started showing up in these thumbnail lists, and they are not paying for it.

Not trying to answer my own question here, but I am guessing it's a variation on local listings, and perhaps an indication of Google's future direction - but I'd love to get confirmation from someone who actually knows, or has seen this in any other business categories.

Its another effort of Google to put more relevant result and its looking more similar update that was earlier for author profile. I find that most of result that showing on screen shot also listed on Google map and have good reviews. however I am not seeing any Google authorize blog on making such updates so it I just rate that optimizing Google local listing may list your business at that place.

I think they may be testing clicks for their PPC program.

I have seen the same thing while searching for movies, books and more. This search result has nothing to do with PPC. When you search with something, Google only shows relevant results at the top. It looks like Google's latest way of giving us similar results while searching with certain kind of keywords.

In Google+ you can add a photo and have it appear in certain search results. Could this be the source of the photos?

take a look at this if you want to add it there
    https://support.google.com/places/answer/142906?hl=en

Im using that right now for a local website.

Googles ranking is a little different for that though.

It all depends on content you submit, amount + diversity + quality of reviews, and links of course.

Try searching restaurant "city" for example, and either that map will come up or local listings.

edit: works only for CERTAIN local listings, nightclubs falls into one of those categories
