First of all, get rid of your Alexa toolbar. It doesn't mean a thing. Use your own stat program to see your stats.

Then I would start off by getting your own IP address and registering your domain name long term. Be sure to make your whois information nice and clean.

Next create a robots.txt file and place it on there, then create an .htaccess file to send all of the domain.com links to www.domain.com.

Next thing you want to do is clean up the html code. Make sure it validates at w3.org and uses a good keyword rich title tag and h1 tags. There's a lot more to this step but those are pretty important. I would also make all of the links go to http://www.domain.com/page.html instead of using just page.html

When you're all done create you a Google sitemap and then start getting some links. I would start by going to info.vilesilencer.com and downloading the SEO-friendly directory listing spreadsheet and submitting to them.

Make sure and submit to dmoz, so there is a chance in 4 years from now that you'll be listed. And if you have some cash you might as well get into the Yahoo directory.

When you jump out of Google's sandbox and see your site listed in the hundreds for your keywords you can come back to find out what to do next.

For a start with SEO look at the FAQs of this site.

But you really need to not loop your site logo and tagline.

    I cant stand it.

    Yup,

I'd like to mention that Alexa traffic rank doesn't say a lot, as it depends on web-savvy people who have an Alexa toolbar installed.

Put you're site up for a Site Review in our site reviews forum if you want specific tips about your site

    And welcome indeed

PS: whoa, lot of replies already, I must be a slow poster LOL

You place a line of code in your robots.txt file which stops googlebot from indexing your site.

This is because they dont deserve your new website and will probably stuff it up the arse anyway - apparently its their god given right to stuff new websites up the ***.

Concentrate on other search engines - ban google from your domain.

Then your efforts will be rewarded by Yahoo and MSN who actually dont stuff new sites in the arse.

    Don't do this.

I don't know about God-given, but the do have the court-given right.

The first part is good advice... and then you say the second part and throw it all away...

Then your efforts will be rewarded by Yahoo and MSN who actually dont stuff new sites in the arse.

    rmccarley,
I take back sticking up for you yesterday when you made a BS post and claimed it as fact and williamC jumped all over you.

I was just being sarcastic on the reply and my original post was helpful (in my opinion).

You should be able to disagree with people, but taking away rep is just wrong and as a truly highly respected member of this forum you should know better.

I used to hold you up with randfish and Egol and them, now I view you totally different.

    Seriously

No No - dont take my post lighthearted.

Google WILL IN ALL PROBABILITY sandbox your site for MONTHS (aka stuff it in the arse).

    Anyone disagree ?

Concentrate on others - BAN GOOGLE - more and more people are doing this - it makes no difference if you are indexed and sandboxed - or not indexed as youve banned them - because you get NOTHING FROM THEM ANYWAY

Yes - they have COURT GIVEN RIGHT TO STUFF YOU - AND THEY DO!!!!

The last brand new domain I got listed went straight in at number 1 on MSN inside 5 days. (6.3 million serp).

Granted - Yahoo takes longer - however - this isnt because they have a sick sandbox like google - (that I know of) its because they generally appear to process information slower.

BAN GOOGLE - JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST THEM.

Just ban them dude and enjoy the traffic etc you get from other engines. Then you wont get embroiled in their algos - and suffer in the long run.

Your sarcasm didn't translate. And to a newbie this could be very damagine. I have always respected your posts until now. This was dangerous and counterproductive to what we do here.

Your original post was helpful and I noted it. Your agreement with atnight was not. If I could have responded to that I would have.

As to the rest, I'm sure we'll both recover.

    • AltherrWeb agrees : Nothing personal against you. I thought atnight's post was sarcastic and was just adding on, now from his last post I see that he's serious (scary). I also question people whose first post is a 'check out my site' post which I believed this one was.

atnight - I understand what you're saying (now), but just ask the big shots, die-hards and old-timers to ban google next time, please.

Atnight - You are right that G will likely sandbox any new site. While this sucks, there are methods of working around it. Banning G does not help your SERPs. Nor does it help you get out of the sandbox. While I respect your ideology, your advice to someone new with SEO is out of place, at least without giving them the full story first.

Feel free to push your agenda, but not by claiming that banning G will help you with the other SEs. This just isn't true.
