It seems that every time we make adjustments to our homepage (such as adding a couple of outbound links to the footer, or including a second set of social buttons at the top of the page in addition to the ones at the bottom), we lose our traffic. We're going up in the SERPs for the longtail keywords we're working on which is great, but any time we make these adjustments our traffic seems to go down.

So, does Google give you some kind of minor temporary punishment if you change your homepage until it can confirm that the changes are positive perhaps?

It's weird because we're making our way *up* the SERPS from literally nowhere, now to page 10 or sometimes page 5, etc. (obviously this is still nowhere in a sense, but still) Just seem to lose traffic after changes are made.

Is that normal?
