    Home page redirect. Is it good, bad or unnecessary?

    Hi,

    Am rebuilding a company website from scratch. The company has one top service plus 3 our 4 different kinds os services, each service include sub topics.

    What do you think about redirecting the home address:
    www.company-name.com -> 301 -> www.company-name.com/top-service/

    www.company-name.com/top-service/subtopic1/
    www.company-name.com/top-service/subtopic2/
    www.company-name.com/service2/
    www.company-name.com/service2/subtopic1/
    ...

    Do you think google could understand better the website subject?

    I don't think it would harm you from a search point of view. I would suggest you think more about the user journey. Will a user be turned off by the service page rather than the homepage?

    It just doesn't really seem like a sensible thing to be doing in my opinion.
