Has Google broken its own algorithm?

This is a really interesting take on the pickle Google has got itself into with links:
Google Broke the Internet - JLH Marketing

Links are supposed to be an important signal when ranking a site but with Penguin hitting too many innocent targets (and more Penguin on the way) sites are pulling out links wholesale just in case.

That means the basis of Google's search (links and link juice) has become fundamentally flawed and they are the ones who undermined themselves! Food for thought ....

It is not broken. Link building still works. But as the time are passing, spammy link building methods are taking it's tow. And the real hitting for innocent is due to negative seo factors. Google is still major player and it's algorithm still works.

I think you are missing the point. If 'respectable' sites are removing links "just in case" then the links that should be there aren't and that in turn undermines the algorithm.

I question the reliability of determining what are innocent targets.
