Hacked site - now what???

Hello All,

I’ve recently noticed my site has been hacked with a folder added to server called Roy along with some other folders/files. This Roy folder somehow added all these weird links to my site, like this one - roy/index.php?a=revell-fire-strike-rc-helicopter .

I’ve deleted all malicious folders/files and added security so it can’t be hacked any longer. But now when I go to Google Webmaster Tools I now have all these ‘404 (NOT FOUND)’ Crawl errors that are trying to link to this ‘Roy folder’.

Does this mean I still have a malicious folders or some code that is trying to link to this folder Roy folder that I deleted? Or is Google trying to crawl pervious links that are no longer there which is causing the error? Is there a way to check for broken links on my site?

Thanks for any help,
Dave

Google tries to crawl a known url. You can remove these links directly from Webmaster Tools. After that you should not have problems.

I would start with finding out how your site was comprimised? Does not matter what steps you take to resolve the problem if it happens all over again.

If it was down to a lazy web host then start with moving webhosts. You should always have a decent backup of your site anyway and that would go a long way to resolving your url issues. Do you have a backup that you can check over or clean up?

You really need to start with looking at how they got in and ensure whatever loophole was used is not left open.
