Greed led to site being google banned???

I've done a few very stupid things. And I have some very novice questions about google and SEO.

I have a subdomain site that at one point would show up on page 1 of google when I entered my desired keywords. I would like to keep the site name annonimous if posible.

    Today that site gives me

Sorry, no information is available for the URL

If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link subdomain.mysite.com

If I enter the site in the google web search.

And rarely gets any traffic from goggle any more.

Way back, when the site slipped to page 3 and 4 at one point .. I got desperate and directed traffic from the main domain and other idle sites to it.. creating duplicate content.. I know that was stupid now.

I also, thought it might be smart to change the default page to some long name that contain valuable keywords and submitted the long name to all the engines. Not sure that did anything but disconnect it from all my links..

I create and dispersed links to the site that used ?variables=a+b+c with keywords .. not sure what impact this had, but now when the site does show up on search, some of those links show up. I suspect It hurt the site.

Today, when I do a site:mydomain.mysite.com , I get about 20 of my pages all cached from about 6 months ago (aug 2005). I've not seen a googlebot since then on this subdomain. In the list I don't see mydomain.mysite.com, but I do see mydomain.mysite.com/new_long_name.aspx .. also, I can't seem to make any sense as to what pages were cached when back when, or what pages seem to still show up in searches, but there appears to be no rhyme or reason.

From what I've read, I don't think I'm banned - but I do think I've confused Google and they have figured I'm spamming and are completely disregarding me now.

The site had valuable content, and i think was linked nicely.

    some newbie questions:

    1. I've removed all dupliate sites, domains and sub-domains from pointing to the subdomain site. I've created under construction / we've moved type sites with a link to the subdomain site.
Is there any hope for the subdomain site? I get Sorry, no 1nformation for the subdomain and the main site as well.

2- Generally speaking, is it a good idea to run a business site under a seperate subdomain?

    3. What exactly constitutes a link? When I type sitespace)subdomain.mysite.com I get tons of listings where the word "site" and my domain show up. but many of these sites don't actually have a link, but rather text with mysite on it and the word "site" on the same page.

    4. What damage was done by creatign links with variables in the links? some of these pages have cached and do sometimes get hits. I see this as duplicate content which sometimes gets a better (though pathetic nonetheless) rank than the main site.

    5. What damage was done by changing the default page and then submitting it. When google indexes domain.mysite.com , does it factor in the default page name? in my case it appears the index for my site from August 2005 (6 months ago) is

domain.mysite.com/long_name_here.aspx and not domain.mysite.com as I would have expected.

Finally, in the list of stupidest thing I did, I took all the text on the default page and turned it graphics. Likely causing the page to loose all and every ranking it had.

Is there any hope? Anything I can do to get google to re-index?

Thanks in advance for any help or information!

Boy, you really did go to town! The first thing I would do is turn the text-in-graphics back to html. That is killing you as far as the search engines go.

i have just been looking at your sites and you have created a real mess there.
All is not lost but you need to work out what you want to do and make it good.
It just needs cleaning up as soon as possible and all that line of keywords down the left hand site needs fixing.

WOW! You have covered most of the no-nos here. Start with getting your html back. Get some good backlinks. To check your backlinks type link:subdomain.yoursite.com . Start over. Its only a matter of time..... Things will look better. Have patience.

    Thanks.

site:mysite only shows indexed backlinks. I heard site:_space_ mysite would show all indexed external links to the site, but it does not it appears to find every site referencing mysite and the word "site"?? how do I do this?

Right now, google does find my site when I enter keywords, however it only sees my domain as http://mysite.com/long_default_name_with_keywords.aspx because I set that as my default and submitted the page to them that way. And Apparently the long name with keywords did help, however, However, my external links only point to the domain - will th is create a disconnect hurting ranking? Goole apparenly does not have my site indexed with the domain alone.

    a. did it make sense for me to submit my domain with the default page? I've seen webmasters benefit to long keyworded names.
    b. does it hurt me that my external links don't make reference to the long name page? I would think the key to good links is that woudl tie back to what google thinks is your site.

CAn anybody comment on my other questions?

Still wondering if a reference in text to my site is as good as an actual link? often text references to a site http://whaterver are seen as links in google. Still not sure how to list all the external links to my site.

    Thanks.

I don't think I've been banned, but can't explain why googlebot has not visited the subdomain.site.com in over 9 months now and my cached sites are that old. Sites that pointed to that domain were indexed recently and have links to the subdomain in question. Any way to tell if google has decided to disregard the subdomain?

    Thanks.
