Got some links from a related site...when will it have an effect?
Hi,
I recently managed to get a number of links from a highly ranked/relevant site.
Now - ive had a look at when google cahes the site and it states every 2 days - does this mean the spiders will cahe the whole site or just the home page?
I'm hoping it picks up all the links rather than picks up 5 on most accessible pages and then the rest a month down the line.

Any advice is appreciated.
It's very unlikely that the entire site will be indexed in one hit.
You can expect the links to kick in anywhere from 4-21 days. Of course it can take longer but this is generally what I see.
That is however if the links ever kick in. How exactly did you get these links? I smell a fish or two!

hi,
thanks for your reply.
Well we've partnered up with this site - its completely relevant to what we do. They have allowed us to put a link on their footer (as a result we appear on every page of their site) (2000 or so pages). Every page has content which is totally relevant to what we do which is ideal - nothing fishy, just a great opportunity.
If the links to get picked up within that time frame i will be happy. - looking into it some of the pages were last indexed a month ago, so i'm hoping they will be soon.

Don't expect the same result as getting 2000 links from 2000 sites.
Not seen this tested but it is commonly believed that you will get little more value than 1 link.

you are correct doesnt benefit really at all getting 200 links from one website, we have done this our selfs not intentially though we have two company websites offering products related to each other however one of them everypage links to the other website. our web designers did this but it hasnt gained us any benefit at all

Why would this be?
If you obtain a link on a highly relevant page then surely it will count. Obviously not as good as 2000 individual links but after doing some research, some other sites are picking up links from the same site - just on multiple pages (they are ranking well).
e.g - A company sponsor a jobs board - for every job posted they obtain a link under the job description.
i have found these sponsors are picking up a great amount of links -they are relevant so they are being counted.

are they running on the same server though?
this is a completey independent site i'm talking about on a different server. It has a high page rank too.
ranks top spot for some extremely competitive keywords (google rates it highly)
is relevant to what we do.
We too have two company websites but linking from one to another does'nt have much effect either, but google recognises both sites belong to the same company i guess.

.
as far as i know they are on different serves. they used to be on the same but our main website was having major load issues with the server so we had to be moved onto a different server, although you could be correct about google recognising that the websites are the same company overall as they are registered by the same person, you will have to let me know what happens with this website and how it affects you on google

I will keep you posted on my findings anyway :-)
Google considers a link to be a vote for the target website, as with most voting systems the same person can't vote 2000 times.
Most site wide links are not truly editorial in nature and smack of manipulation which is exactly what you are doing.
Most that pick up site wide links are very disappointed with the results. There was an interesting post from Egol a while ago where he observed the effect of loosing a lot of links that were from the same site while maintaining others. This was a high authority site but the loss of links made little to no impact.

Many thanks - i will keep you all in the loop anyway - may take a month or two to actually see its effects but we shall see.
i understand the whole voting system and get it - just after doing some research into other sites with good ranking, many links come from the same site but on multipe pages - some infact have 10,000 links 2000 of which come from one source and another 2000 from another and so fourth.
many thanks and like i said we shall see if it has an effect (if any).

I touched on this in a thread yesterday. The problem with looking at your competitors back links is you run the risk of misinterpreting what you see.
Those sites might have a bunch of links from the same domain. Your problem is you don't know which links are driving rank.
