Got my name in #@$@ Ripoffreport.com!
What a scam. Got a (seriously, unfounded) "review" of me in Ripoffreport.com. My name is very unique and not much about me in Google, so this one has top billing.
I researched Ripoffreport.com and found out that the guy is an extortionist. No way to get off the site, even though the commentary about me is totally untrue and slanderous. What do I do? I was looking into Google Bowling to see if I could just get that particular page dropped out of the rankings. Possible? Other suggestions? No flaming, please! This really has me bummed out already, just need help. Also - willing to pay for any hands on experienced help. |

It's not easy to get a page of somebody else's site removed from Google... Have you tried the "repair your reputation" route on the site (allows you to post a rebuttal and more)!

Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately that's what they want, and won't do anything besides further strengthen that ranking - more changes to that page, Google bot will just love it! |

make a page on your website titled "Ripoffreport.com rebuttle from Companya" and just say something simple, non aggressive, and non combative explaingin how easy it is to place unfounded complaints on ripoffreport.com and invite the posting customer to have the issue resolved with yourself.
That is one idea, another is to ignore it and hope it drops off after a bit. Also mention your ocmpany name write some articles and try to fill Google with quality off-site company information and try and bury the story to page two or three... should be easy as no one will likely link to the post on ripoff.com and your stories will sit above it. |

I sometimes use ArticlesBase and PRnews to get stuff out, any other recommendations to get some new content and backlinks to the bio on my site?

well first of all, is the report accurate?
Don't look at the situation from your point of view, try to see if from the point of view of the person who posted it, do they feel they have been scammed by you, or slighted, or short changed? Were you not clear when explaining the services you were providing them? Was there room for misinterpretation? don't get all twisty, have to ask these things... If you haven't done anything wrong then I agree with ClickyB, post a rebuttal. Is there a way to find out who posted the rip off report on you? can you try to resolve the matter privately and ask them to petition rip off report to remove the post? Other than that you can try to make other pages optimized to your name as the keyword and push it down in the serps. Last edited by ladyemma : March 21st, 2008 at 04:34 PM. |

Well. First of, the report isn't just completely baseless, it's also very inflamatory.
Second, baseless or otherwise, would you like to Google yourself and see the first heading be "Ripoffreport.com"? Probably not. I'm definitely not filing a rebuttal, since this will make the page newer, and increase the foothold the page has. That would be totally counterproductive. I get the idea of adding positive content. My question is, how, specifically do I best go about that? Best sites to use? I'm already on LinkedIn, Meetup, Facebook, etc, and these are starting to show - but ranked lower still than the Ripoffreport. What can I do next to get my rankings up higher? And ... still no comments, anybody know enough about Google Bowling to know whether it's possible to get just one page on a high traffic site sandboxed? Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of blackhat practices. But if you look up Ripoffreport and it's owner, you'll quickly find that he's an extortionist, charging very significant amounts of money to allow individuals to exonerate themselves. So, no, even if I did find this third party, the post would still not be removed. Any constructive, specific comments by anyone who understands SEO well enough to not suggest feeding the "bad site" with additional new content? I do appreciate your suggestions, sure, but looking for tangible means for just one thing: Get my name off the first page of Google in "Ripoffreport.com". Willing also to compensate for help. the best thing you can do is hire a lawyer to send a cease and desist, or whatever they call those letters if there's something more specific to your problem. does ripoffreport have customer service or a phone number? an address? if you write them a letter explaining your stance, you might at least get some advice from them on how to handle it

You will need to do some specific SEO work for these positive content sites with your name on them. Generate some external links with your name as the anchor pointed towards each of these pages. Given that there is very low competition on the search phrase of your name, your different profiles on Linkedin etc. should quickly advance in the SERPS. Good luck. |

There are many blog sites out there (blogster, xanga, blog, blogspot, blogrox, vox) that you could create pertaining to your name also that you could get to rank above this ripoffreport listing. There are many reputation management companies out there that will do this for you, for a fee of course.
My company had a similar problem with the #2 and #3 ranking sites for our name being negative threads. We've created blogs and added listings to coupon sites and those threads are now #6 and #12. It takes some time and some work, but it can be done.

Since yours is a unique name so it wont be tough to outrank yourself
Firstly i would suggest to target blogs and forums which have a high value and rank it can be anything from sports to politics.Include your name in there...i am not saying that you spam the blogs but write something meaningful and to the topic....In short contribute to it. Also follow what googler has said...i don't think it would be much of a problem... Good luck. |

Thanks so much for all the suggestions!
And yea, I know ... the guy running that site is using it to extort people who don't want to be on it. There was a big article on him somewhere, he's a slimy cat. |
