Google vs Yahoo backlinks

Is there a reason that when I search link:http://www.mysite.com in Google, it returns about 4 results...

But when i search http://www.mysite.com in Yahoo Site Explorer, I get 330 results back?

Can someone explain why Yahoo's backlinks are this much higher?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yahoo update their links often, and google doesn't. Yahoo is probably more accurate because it will get updated every month or so.

the site has been around for 4 years though, there haven't been many new links in the past several months - not a significant amount anyway.

This is wrong. Google only show a sample of the links. If you look in google webmaster tools you will see much more.

Google will not display all your backlinks as what Yahoo does...You can only check your backlinks wether it increases or not after the google backlinks update.

google shows a random sample backlinks but you can see the real number of your backlinks in google webmaster tools. I believe google do this to avoid other sites spy on the links of their competitors.

google is not very good in telling you the number of links going to your site. that however does not mean they are not seeing them or counting them out.
