    Google v's msn

    Hi ;)

I'm getting pretty confused by google, I understand the basics but it just seems so much hassle getting indexed. I understand the basics which has got me to number 2 on msn.com and 1 on msn.co.uk for "flatmate".

But in google I'm not even indexed from the looks of it, even directorys that have my link pop up when i do a search for the term but my site is no where to be seen.

Am I going wrong somewhere or is msn actually a more inteligent engine?

msn are simply easier to rank well in. This is because of many reasons, but the sandbox, age filter, link factors etc... are important in google. With msn you can get a decent ranking just by correct tags and loads of bold text

....and a buttload of irrelevant links

Google will take much more work and time, but will pay dividends by the amount of traffic it drives.

9 - 18 months completely depends on the competition for the phrases you have picked. If you target niche phrases that also have permutations of your most desired phrases you can get in the top ten in a matter of 3 - 6 months for those niche phrases that will deliver less traffic but still bring in relevant traffic. It could take even longer than 9 - 18 months to get top ten SERPs for the most competitive phrase(s) depending on how savy your competition is and how far ahead of you they are.

    • googler agrees : Yes, target more volume of less trafficked terms in the first 3-6 months. Then go after the competitive terms.
