    Google using meta description in serps

    I noticed that superbowl.com and some other top ranked sites get their meta description underneath their link on serps. Is there any concrete way to get this privilege besides having a PR 7 or better and some luck?

    If the search term used is prevalent in your description there is a good chance Google may use your META description. If not, Google will select text within the page containing the search term.

    FACT:

    Google uses your meta tags to display a description in the serps.

    FACT:

    Google does not use your meta tags as keywords for searching.

    Example:

    <html>
    ..
    <title>Cookies are Cool</title>
    description="cookies cream cake"
    ..
    jingle bells cake
    </html>

    Try #1:

    search: cookies

    no results.

    Try #2:

    search: cake

    Cookies Are Cool
    cookies cream cake
