    Uhm, sure check this out.

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...&q=webabillard

    3rd result: Le webabillard quoide9.org

If you check out the description google is giving for the webpage, it's not anywhere in the source, only in the desc meta tag.

    weird isnt it?

    (btw it's a under-construction page)

    Yeah.. that's right.

Thats true !! Google is using Meta Desc tag for the display at serps.

What does it concludes...?? Met desc - relatively important....?
If so, ... i believe some imporatnt keywords and keyphrases should be a part of it then.... !!!

Am i on the right track ?

I found that out quite some time ago. My meta tag description is also on my page. but in my metas. I had a spelling error which was not on the page. but was showing up in the serps. Once I fixed it in the meta it was fixed in the serps.

this has all been spoken about before, read it up in the search..

They have used meta description all along, the only time they actually use the meta desc for the serps is when your search word is in the description on your site...

so this isn;t some new wonderful gonna get you to #1 trick, but never the less you should always optimize them.

what i usually do is optimize the description for a good selling point.

    so something like;

Contains widgets in all colors at discounted prices also has blue widgets and cranberries.

this is what i want the user to see so he doesnt click on my site if he isn't interested in my exact blue widgets etc.

also if that is what they are looking for, then you can be sure that you will get the sale over someone who has keywords for a description or when the serps show content from the actual homepage.

    hope this makes sense
