Google title tag and exclamation marks
I'm wondering if anyone knows if exclamation marks in the title tag would hurt rankings. Would it be looked at as spam?
For my home page, I am looking to update my title as follows: <title>Keyword1 Equipment, Discover How to Keyword2 Today!</title> Any thoughts? Many thanks. |

we haven't used same in quite awhile, so my own thoughts are like 5 years out of date...but back in 03 or so, didn't matter... G treated same then like it treats hypens, pipes etc....ie punctuation mattered not a whit....
they still ignore - + | etc....that I do know is current....but ! I dont' know... anyone tested that recently? Jim

I really do not believe such marks would spoil the rankings since Google is no longer like the portal in 2001 and the off page optimization elements, namely links, are saying the first and last words in today;s specialized SEO globe.

doesn't seem to have a problem for me.

!
If you need to use that you must use then, don't see any problem on that as it's recommendable to make normal phrases.

No, I very much doubt it.
It may not incur a ranking penalty but I personally don't use them; it strikes me as a bit "spammy". Unless maybe you're using a call to action e.g. "book now!". Even then though. |

When I first started in seo I worked for a company who would put the ! in front of the title, his theory was that the ! was the first letter in the alphabet and therefore google ranked the site higher. I have to admit that seemed to be working at the time, but I don't think it is affective now.

I'm going to give it a go. It's an exclamation mark at the end, and it's not like I am creating a <title> like this:
THE #1 WIDGET SITE ON THE INTERNET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks everyone for your input. - O |
